In addition, tadalafil was also associated with a higher risk of priapism when taken at a dose of 20 milligrams per day.
The researchers also noted that, based on the available data, tadalafil was less likely than other PDE5 inhibitors to cause priapism. They suggested that if tadalafil was administered as a daily dose, it may reduce the risk of this side effect.
Because of the potential for priapism and other side effects, patients may be prescribed tadalafil daily for a short period of time.
The results, published in theJournal of the American Society of Erectile Dysfunctionmagazine, were published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine. The study is based on data from patients who have been prescribed tadalafil for erectile dysfunction for more than 12 months.
The study found that patients who have used tadalafil at least two times during the study period had an average decrease of about 0.5 percent of their baseline values from baseline. However, the researchers noted that, compared to the baseline values, patients who received the lowest dose of tadalafil had a 1.5 percent decrease.
“The patients who received the lowest dose of tadalafil had a 1.5 percent decrease in the average baseline PDE5 inhibitor value, which is a significant change from the baseline values,” the researchers concluded. “Patients who received the lowest dose of tadalafil should be cautious about using this medication and should not take this drug as often or for a prolonged period of time.”
